Vendor Products Problems
|
| |
I have been debating whether or not to post this information and have decided that others should have the information I have obtained.
I have posted this on the CCR site because the two vendors mentioned here sold these products at Gatlinburg.
Digicut Systems sold me a product called Aquapel Rain Repellent. I was told that Aquapel was specifically formulated for polycarbonate windshields like on the LT. I asked the salesperson if he was sure that this was for polycarbonate because Rain-X and similar products do not work on plastic. I was assured that it was for plastic. I bought 2 applicators and put it on the LT windshield that morning.
After returning home, I was curious about Aquapel and searched the internet for information. Aquapel is made by PPG Industries and it is NOT for polycarbonate or plastic it is for glass windshields just like Rain-X. I have not had any problems with my windshield yet but I dislike being decieved and taken advantage of.
I have since obtained a copy of PPGs brochure and the front clearly states Aquapel Glass Treatment Rain Repellent Glass Treatment and For Professional Application Only, Not for Retail Sale. I am not a professional applicator and I am a retail purchaser. I do not know if this has or will screw up my windshield. I have written to PPGs tech services department and I am awaiting their reply.
The second product had to do with a polyurethane headlight guard. I did not get the vendors name or company name but he was selling these flexible plastic headlight guards that he claimed were made by 3M Company especially for him and they were optically clear and they were $35 and $15 to install. I thought it was a good idea but rather expensive (what isnt for an LT?). So I decided not to purchase one.
After returning home I decided to see what I could find out about this material. I quickly found a polyurethane material made by 3M called Paint Protection Film. It is designed as a clear alternative to vehicle bras or guards. The bottom of the first page of the PDF file states Not approved for use on headlight or windshields because of possible interference with optical clarity. I called 3M tech support and was told that this was the only urethane material they made and it was definitely not for headlights. I asked him if anyone made a urethane material suitable for headlights and I was told No.
I would like to give the vendor the benefit of the doubt but based on his claims and 3Ms statements, I think this material is not meant for headlights. I hope I am wrong. I hope those of you who bought this headlight guard can get to the real truth about this material.
Please do not think I have anything against these vendors who were kind enough to come to our reunion. I am only looking for the truth.
